Adaptive and Recreational Riding

Adaptive Riding (Therapeutic Riding)

Adaptive Riding lessons are 45 minutes long and are an equine-assisted activity in which
the primary goal is to teach riding skills while also contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals with special needs.

While accomplishing the goal of learning to ride a horse our
students can experience:

  • improved strength, balance and coordination

  • improved fine and gross motor skills

  • balance, trunk control & muscle tone

  • focus & concentration

  • self-esteem, awareness & confidence.

Age requirement: 6 + years through adults.
An initial consultation and evaluation is required. To support the health and well-being of our equine partners, our balanced rider weight limits are between 100 - 160 lbs.

Recreational Riding

To support the health and wellbeing of our equine partners, our balanced
rider weight limits are between 100 - 160lbs.

Our mission allows volunteers and family members of therapeutic participates
to enjoy a common love for horses and farm activities at BINA, including
having an opportunity to sign up for one of our limited Recreational Riding
lesson spots.  Separately, if and when there were more slots available,
we opened those up to committee members and donors of our
program who support BINA even if they are not directly benefiting
from our therapy programs.

Recreational Riding lessons are 45-minutes long and are taught by a
Massachusetts Licensed Riding Instructor to help participants progress in a
healthy, fun and nurturing environment. Our Recreational Riding program is
built on the fundamentals of excellent horsemanship, effective & correct
equitation, and the principles of dressage.  All participants develop short-
and long-term riding goals, leading to increased confidence, independence and joy.
