Equine-Assisted Learning

What is Equine-Assisted Learning?
Equine-Assisted Learning is an experiential learning approach that promotes the development of life skills. The focus on life skills can be related to academic achievement and classroom behavior, personal growth and exploration, or professional pursuits such as leadership development, team building and executive coaching.

What does an Equine-Assisted Learning session look like?
Equine-Assisted Learning lessons can be individual or group. Each lesson involves a horse interaction facilitated by the professional or professional team. Although there is always a lesson plan, a good facilitator will often follow the horse’s lead. Often the activities are problem solving based, relationship building or focused on critical thinking skills.

Education for Individuals or Groups
Unmounted (non riding)

Research has demonstrated that Equine-Assisted Learning programs enhance social competencies and reduce stress.

  • Our curriculum focuses on equine and barn skills. Options include 18 different modules to choose from including:

    • Horse Sense, Grooming, Horse First Aid, Barn Management, Horse Conformation, Hoof Care, Lunging, Long Lining and more….

  • Lessons can focus on sequencing, scaffolding, goal setting, and concentration.

  • We can work within the framework student’s social, emotional and scholastic goals, taking into account the horse can dictate how the lesson unfolds.

  • These activities and discussions can improve student confidence, self-assurance, verbal and non-verbal communication, focus, mindfulness, and coping strategies.

Team Building  Workshops
“Behavior is Communication”

BINA Farm Center custom designs and facilitates experiential learning opportunities with horses to help teams - their members, managers, and leaders - optimize strengths and explore challenges with this exciting and unique learning model.

Choose from 8 team building activities for 2-10 people, in a 3-4 hour session that focus on interpersonal relationships.

Spend time at our center, outdoors, participate in team building activities with and without horses
(better than another motivational speaker!).

Communication: horses are non-verbal but their body language is understandable.

Concentration, selflessness, and teamwork, are attributes enhanced when working with horses.

Improved self-esteem, self awareness, confidence and empathy, which are fundamental aspects of emotional intelligence.

  • These skills translate into real-world applications. For example, developing trust can help mend strained relationships, while enhancing communications skills can aid in resolving conflicts in a healthier manner.

  • No horse experience is necessary to participate, no horseback riding occurs in these lessons.
