Donating A Horse
What type of horses do we need?
Below are the basic characteristics necessary for a horse to be donated to us and become either a therapy or recreational riding horse used in our inclusive program:
Sound at the walk and trot, with balanced gaits as the horses’ movement is the chief benefit to our participants’ therapy.
The horse must currently be in work, we do not take horses out of retirement.
The horse should be obedient to both voice and leg aids.
The horse must trot in hand both while mounted and unmounted.
Horses must be comfortable with people in “their space” while in work, accepting of people walking or jogging next to them.
The horse must be comfortable with balls, rings and other toys being tossed overhead and around them.
Horses we accept into our program are usually between 8-18 years of age and in good health- as a non-profit we cannot afford to take on a horse
which has numerous medical expenses. We rarely make exceptions to these guidelines
Horses in our program have multiple stabling options available: Including large heavily bedded stalls, the opportunity to live out 24/7 with sheds, stalls with in/out. Horses in our program also have: Individual diets and supplements, unlimited hay, receive routine and specialized veterinary and farrier care, routine dental care, routine myofacial work, routine saddle fitting, scheduled days off, individual or group turn-out, receive scheduled exercise with professional trainers, and especially, get lots of tender love and care.
Please use the form on this page if you think your horse could join our herd of unicorns. Thank you!
